Reform is a fitness-tracking wearable that helps users improve their form during workouts. The device is a wrist watch that allows users to minimize injury by focusing on preventing poor form and unsafe habits. Reform utilizes body mapping to analyze workouts in real-time and provide custom feedback.
I was recruited to join this project to redesign the UX of the Reform app. The physical prototype of the wearable had already been fully developed. My task was to create an app experience that complements the functionality of the physical prototype. Goals for this project included:
The client was not satisfied with the previous app designs. I reviewed the feedback for the previous design to inform my approach for the next iteration
I mapped out a new information architecture that reflects the key functionalities of the device and proposed a new friends leaderboard feature to enhance the device’s marketability
Drawing inspiration from the previous design and taking the new user flow into account, I proposed several UI options for the redesigned app. The project lead preferred the 3rd option due to its clean layout and clear information display
I wireframed key features and tested them with users in our target age range
The personalized fitness coaching sessions provide real-time feedback, correcting bad form and preventing poor habits from developing
The trend analysis provides targeted feedback to the Reform user based on their progress and workout goals
Stay connected with friends who also use Reform, share your progress, and celebrate each others' achievements
Set up and edit Reform device features with ease
Working on this project taught me how to balance client needs with my own design input. I successfully addressed the client's problem while utilizing my design skills, background, and experience to create an effective final deliverable. Additionally, I gained valuable experience in designing with intention to meet specific user needs. Since there are many existing workout apps to reference, it became crucial to deeply understand our target users' expectations, enabling me to prioritize and refine the features most relevant to them.
